Yooohooo!!! I'm indeed in Singapore!
All set for Singapore. Booked my ticket as early as Oct 2008 scheduled for Feb 2, 2009. Am I not that excited??? hehehe. It is because cebu pacific had a promo and I had my ticket booked on the promo deadline. Thanks to Mommy Mitch's credit card. I thought I couldn't make it. Lucky me! Haha!
We (with Ram and TL Mae) have been secretly planning this for quite sometime already 'coz we don't want our OM to know that we are resigning. Ram - Australia, TL Mae - Singapore and Me - Dubai - White Lies!!!...Sorry OM...the truth is we're all together in SG. OM doesn't want me to resign so she gave a month of LOA. BUt then I resigned eventually.
TL Mae's flight was 2 weeks ahead of mine while Ram's was a week before mine. I was excited but quite anxious 'coz it will be my first time there but I guess I'm ready, did some researh about SG. In fact, I was too early. Flight is at 6:25 am but there am I, 3:30 am at the boarding area. I was at the Economy class but I availed the extra legroom so I can stretch my legs and sit comfortably. As if my height is 6 feet. I was just curious to try 'coz United Airlines offers this Economy Plus seat.
Ram and TL Mae picked me up at the Airport and went to my apartment near Al-Junied MRT station (as in 10 tumblings lang). hehehe. We were like 6 pax in one room, all Filipinos trying their luck to find a job. They were all very nice and helpful. Ram's place is in Bukit Panjang (so far) while Mae is just a station away.
Our main goal is to find a job and at the same time to tour SG. Thanks to my netbook, it was easy to apply online. We would buy Newspaper and walk-in in the morning 'til afternoon under the heat of the sun. We've been to a few interviews. I also met some friends from Sykes and gave us tips on job-hunting. There were a lot of jobs but due to the Global Economic Recession, companies tend to prioritize the locals. I kept my faith and remained positive.
And since we're already in SG, why not tour around after a day of hardwork, hehehe.
SG is an expensive city. Everything is organized, less pollution as compared here, people have a sense of discipline, there's a mix of culture (chinese, Malay, Indian). With our maps and booklets, we toured the city via MRT.
MRT - there's that distinct smell inside. I really couldn't figure it out. Hehehe. You can use the LRT card in McD. Amazing! hehehe. As long as you have a map, you won't be lost. SOme stations are like malls already - huge and super underground.
Orchard Road - there are a lot of Filipinos there specially in Lucky Plaza. It's like the "tambayan" of our kababayans. There was one time I was craving for Adobo so we went there just to eat. Grabe, even if it's expensive, I really ordered a lot - lechon, bbq, pork chop, ginataang kalabasa, pakbet, torta...Nkakamiss tlga Pinoy food!
Sentosa - they say it's a man-made beach. It's just a train away from the city proper. Loved the beach. I felt like I was in the carribean. There are a number of foreigners there enjoying the heat of the sun.
Esplanade - it's Durian-like architeture really amazes me. I was able to go inside. We went to this mall and took the underground passages. Surprisingly, when we went-up, we were already inside the Esplanade. cultural shows and events are being held outside as well.
Not far from the Esplanade is the Merlion (the famous landmark), Marina Bay and the Singapore Flyer. It was really beautiful especially at night when all the lights are glowing. Quite romantic. hehehe.
Nightlife? - Zero!!! So sad that We never had the chance to party due to budget constraints. Hhi.
chicken chop rice - Naumay ako sa food na ito. Morning, Noon and Night yan ata ung kinakain ko with Ice cold Sugarcane juice. It's cheap kc - $2 only. Kaya naman I really craved for Pinoy Food. Before I left for SG, my mom bought me a dozen of Lucky Me Pancit canton, sachets of powdered juice, and pack of biscuits. Thanks Mom!
I was not able to tour that much 'coz Ram's Visa was about to expire already and decided to join him to cross the border to Malaysia. Initially, my plan is just to stay there for 3 - 5 days then go back to SG again. I just wanna see the Petronas. So after my 3 weeks stay in SG, we're all set for Malaysia.
